Get Started

The public is always welcome to visit our field and spend some time watching the flying and talking to the pilots. Only members and their invited guests who are members of the AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) are eligible to fly at the club field, but if you are interested in learning to fly we’re happy to introduce you to the hobby and get you in the air safely.

If you are a newcomer to the hobby, you’ll want to take time to learn what equipment you should have, and where you can acquire it. Don’t be afraid to ask questions of our members – they will be glad to help you get started the right way. Remember, we all started like you. Get involved! Come and talk to the membership, we’ll be happy to help you understand the methods of safe and fun R/C flying, which starts in your workshop.

All new club members, and guest flyers, whatever their experience, need to familiarize themselves with the club field rules and safety policies before flying. New members, and guest flyers, irrespective of their experience, will need to pass a check flight before being permitted to fly alone.

This site has more information on getting started in R/C that we’re sure you will find it very informative: Hooked On R/C Planes

You will also want to visit the Academy of Model Aeronautics’ website for information and to join: Academy of Model Aeronautics

About Us

Welcome to the Racine R/C Club Web Page. This page has been put together for the benefit of club members as well as visitors who are interested in radio controlled aircraft. We have many types of aircraft, in a variety of sizes, that fly at our field including airplanes, sailplanes, and combat planes just to mention a few.

The field is completely taken care of by the membership of the club. This includes grass cutting, and grounds up keep in general.

The property is owned by the Village of Mount Pleasant. The Village of Mt. Pleasant is kind enough to let us use this land in exchange for the help of our club members at their compost site, which is open 6 hours each Wednesday of the summer months.  Members are responsible for signing up to cover shifts at the Compost Site. Completing the necessary amount of shifts is a condition of membership – new members are required to sign up for their required shifts at time of sign up (Club Member Application). The number of shifts required varies based on membership size; please see the Club Handbook for specific detail.

If you’re interested in getting into radio controlled aircraft or just want to learn about the hobby itself, swing by and see us! We’re always happy to see visitors. You can also see the following site for more information on getting started in RC:

Flying hours at our field are 9 A.M til sunset. It is best to come out and visit when the weather is nice and not too windy. Most members fly after 4 P.M. but many of our senior members can be found there anytime of the day. We fly all year round. Yes, even in the winter. As long as the road is cleared many members will fly their craft with appropriate ski-landing gear attached.

Club meetings are held the first Sunday of each month at 1pm. These are held at the field. Come check us out!
